An introduction for pre-school children starting at age 2½, Creative Dance includes basic dance steps, activities, and role-playing to develop musical awareness, coordination and self-confidence. Look out - children who develop comfort expressing themselves creatively are empowered to express themselves in other areas!

Using current popular music, the course emphasizes traditional Hip Hop styles, movements and choreography. We teach b-boy traditions such as pop/lock, up rock, boogie, and six step alongside contemporary styles and tricks like those seen in music videos and on Broadway.

Dealing with broad movement concepts and themes, modern dance allows students to learn by exploring. Modern dance also covers a wide range of ways to move, which are applicable to almost any form of dance a student may study in the future. Modern can include all contemporary styles of dance that express feelings and abstract ideas with unrestricted movements. It can also be the art of inventing and exploring movement itself! 

Ballet consists of classical training including barre and centre. The traditions of hard work and proper technique are emphasized, and this course strengthens dancers' bodies for many other movement avenues such as jazz, lyrical, tap, and more. 

Tap is a stylized form of movement that develops coordination, rhythm, and balance and stresses footwork. Students learn vocabulary and concepts applicable to various tap forms and beyond. An understanding of shifting weight and seeing and hearing movement are emphasized. All of this lends itself to going beyond ‘drumming with the feet!’ 

Enrollment is by teacher recommendation and audition. Students with exceptional dedication and abilities are given the opportunity to perform at competitions, community events, local fundraisers and other venues. Students get to see more of what is out there and share their hard work with more audiences. Working more diligently and having more performance opportunities accelerates growth and excitement about dancing!

Lyrical dance expresses the message or mood of the music while fusing the techniques of ballet, jazz, and modern.

Choreography is the art of creating dances. In this special workshop, dedicated dance artists ages 11+ will learn the foundations of dance making including musicality, phrasing, and how to develop a refined movement vocabulary. Students will apply these lessons to creating a unique piece of choreography all their own. The workshop concludes with the Future Choreographers Showcase.
